Frequently Asked Questions FAQs
Is your payment system secure?!
We use PayPal, which has an international reputation for the security of its system and is used the world over.
What is the prize money?
£100 for the monthly competition, £250 for our end-of-year one.
How do I know what the pounds sterling prize is worth in the currency of my nation?
You can either ask at your ! bank or there are plenty of websites which can do it for you, such as the US one http://www.x-rates.com/ for dollar conversions
What do you mean by 'winning writers'? Does this mean the writers who get UKP 100 or UKP 250, or does it also mean honourable mentions? I ask this because if a story is put up when it is an honourable mention (or in a shortlist or at a position that is announced but get no prize money etc), it becomes published and the first rights are lost without any revenue coming through. While some writers like this because it gives exposure, others may not. Clarity on this may help and avoid confusion/ unhappiness later.
All rights remain with the writer throughout. A winning writer (by which we mean someone winning the £100 monthly prize or the £250 annual one or small prizes for being highly commended, where applicable) will always retain the rights to their work. Copyright always remains with the writer, as does the right to send a piece elsewhere. As part of the competition, we will place winning stories on the site but that does not mean a writer cannot submit them elsewhere.
Can I submit a story that has been posted as a blog at a blog site?
That is no problem at all.
You use sterling on your website. How much would the £5 entry fee be in US funds?
If you’re using Paypal, the Paypal system will automatically convert the transaction using the prevailing dates exchange rates. It will be about $10.
If entering by post, to whom do I make out the cheque?
It should be made out for £5 to Certys Limited
